The core values for Leo Tucker and the Washington, D.C. office are to exemplify personal responsibility, commitment to growth, abundance and gratitude. Education, motivation and empowerment are the tools by which this office enables its associates to envision and fulfill a successful future to better serve its clients.

Leo Tucker, CLU, Managing Partner

In April of 2003, Leo Tucker assumed Managing Partner responsibilities for Northwestern Mutual’s Washington, D.C.-area operations, which are based in the District of Columbia and include other local offices in Fairfax, McLean, Reston and Rockville.

As one of Northwestern Mutual’s exciting young leaders, he brings a deep commitment to excel in this position, along with personal energy and proven management experience.

Northwestern Mutual’s D.C.-area operations have more than 75 full-time Financial Representatives and continue to aggressively recruit throughout the Washington metropolitan region.

The firm’s Financial Representatives specialize in, among other things, business and estate analysis, employee benefits, investments, life insurance and long-term care insurance.

Professional Accomplishments

Leo joined Northwestern Mutual in 1991 as a Financial Representative with The South Florida Group. He quickly distinguished himself as an extremely successful member of this district network office’s sales force.

In his personal practice, he earned numerous honors on both the firm and industry levels, including perennially qualifying for the prestigious Million Dollar Round Table. He also earned the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) professional designation.

Leo entered the management ranks in 1995 as a Field Director, during which time he built a strong sales unit. Due to his outstanding performance, he was promoted to Assistant Managing Partner for The South Florida Group.

In this role, he was charged with the recruiting and training of Financial Representatives, as well as the day-to-day running of this office. His increasing responsibilities led to his 1998 appointment as Managing Director in Naples, Fla. There, Leo developed one of the firm’s top-producing district network offices.

Leo was selected to join the Northwestern Mutual Home Office in 2001 as an Assistant Director of Agency Development, a position designed to prepare talented candidates for Managing Partner assignments.

He worked as a liaison between Northwestern Mutual’s corporate headquarters in Milwaukee and other Managing Partners around the country to assist them in developing their district network offices.

Leo’s Home-Office experience and his achievements in agency management, recruiting, sales and training made him an ideal choice to lead Northwestern Mutual’s Washington-area operations.

Under his leadership, Northwestern Mutual’s D.C.-area operations have continually grown their number of Financial Representatives and constantly performed well from a financial standpoint.

A model of consistency, Leo has earned the Master Agency Award from GAMA International for 10 years in a row. And, in recent years, he has spoken across the United States, as well as overseas, about the importance of financial security, among other topics.

Personal Accomplishments

Leo and his wife, Marilyn, have two children, Colby and Sloane. They reside in Northern Virginia.

In his free time, Leo is immensely involved in the Washington area’s civic and philanthropic communities. In 2011, for example, he joined the Board of Governors at the Tiger Woods Foundation, and for several years he has also led this non-profit organization’s college-access program in D.C. while mentoring several Earl Woods Scholars.

Leo previously served on the Board of Directors at the Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, and he’s also a past president of the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County in Florida.

For his work with the Tiger Woods Foundation and the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County, Leo received Northwestern Mutual’s prominent Community Service Award in 2012 and 2000, respectively.

Leo's fund-raising efforts on behalf of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) led him to receive the 2013 Man of the Year honor for the LLS National Capital Chapter.

Currently, Leo is also enrolled in the University of California, Berkeley MBA for Executives Program. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees at The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa.
